Lotus Bend Sanctuary – Shannon Gill-Jones
Lotus Bend Sanctuary – Shannon Gill-JonesLotus Bend is a community, day retreat center, and sanctuary for individuals, couples and groups. Through workshops, programs, and events they provide opportunities to celebrate, heal, transform, and integrate body, mind, and spirit.
They offer their land, rich in beauty and wisdom, as a home to a community that extends beyond the land to create a force for positive change in the world that fosters peace, gratitude, understanding, and communion.
Set on seven acres at the end of a small secluded neighborhood and 1000’s of acres at the far end of Mopac, this little spot is just 25 mins from downtown Austin, yet worlds away from the frantic pace that is the city.
The space is set for private events, workshops, day retreats and public offerings and is a working community in the making.
On a dry/wet watershed in the “bend” of Little Bear Creek, there is vertically no visual contact with the outside and is a wonderful canvas for opening up to the raw elements.
Lotus Bend Sanctuary is a group of practitioners, friends, and family whose belief is that as we expand the heart, mind and spirit, we unlock our inner potential which opens the door to creating beauty, fostering change, and supporting peaceful and mutual coexistence.
Lotus Bend is a sacred place, a place of safety for healing, discovery, reconnection, recreation and reaching out through inward reflection, meditation, ritual, rest, play, reconciliation and communion.
Lotus Bend is a wish, a promise to plant the seeds of awareness, wisdom, stewardship, and action to create a more inclusive, just and compassionate society for all.
Their emblem, the lotus flower, reminds us that we emerge from the primordial clay through the waters of experience and blossom into the bright sunshine of enlightenment, rising high above…but for a brief period.

Premascension: Yoga, Healing, and the Power of the Word – Mary (Prema) Vaughan
Premascension: Yoga, Healing, and the Power of the Word – Mary (Prema) VaughanASCEND WITH LOVE
Mary Vaughan (aka Prema), MA, MAT, E-RYT® 500, YACEP® is the founder and owner of Premascension. She provides yoga and healing services for individuals and small groups and teaches at studios in Lake Charles, Louisiana and beyond.
Her spiritual name “Prema” was aptly given as it means, “the energy of love itself in all forms.” Prema brings this loving, healing energy to everything she does. She looks forward to assisting you with your ascension process.
Services Offered:
- Healing Services:
Healing vs. Curing: A healer is one who has moved through their own pains and traumas, problems and challenges, and has found the way to move through these by learning from them and through grace. In the shamanic tradition, the wounded healer serves others by drawing on his or her own encounters and confrontations and sharing the wisdom gained through his own process of healing. Therefore, healers leave curing for the medical profession, etc. It is not the healer’s responsibility to remove that which needs a doctor’s attention and expertise. Healing is an altogether different matter. Some of the most powerful healing experiences do not involve a cure at all (example: a dying individual making peace before passing; accepting and making the most precious use of time during an illness). Oftentimes, healing is spontaneous, whole, and not always of the expectation of the client; more often, the healing level reaches much further than any expectation can. Expectations involve limits; healing means expansion and can impact the client on multiple levels and through multiple dimensions; hence, the utter beauty of healing lies at the core of the experience. - Yoga:
- Private instruction
- Public Classes
- Workshops
- Yoga Nidra: You will work together with Prema to design the perfect Yoga Nidra experience for your needs and desires. This is an ancient and potent practice that works on multi-dimensions of being, from the physical body, emotional body, all the way to the bliss body. You will receive an audio recording of your personally designed Yoga Nidra for home practice convenience.
- Munay Ki Initiation: The 9 Rites of the Shaman: Munay-Ki Rites are always freely given to those who are ready. Munay means “love” and Ki means “energy.” These rites contain the opportunity to speed healing and become the evolved Homo Luminous…downloading that which you are already in the process of becoming years from now.

Meet Carolina:
Carolina Perez is an artist and writer, in love with her “now”, is the laughing mom of a 9yr old renaissance boy, is the sexy queen bee of her home with her son Franek and life partner Geo [who thinks she is the bomb and she is not correcting him anytime soon].
Born in Puerto Rico to Cuban exile parents, she is also an International Certified NLP Life Coach, Trauma Release Coach, Time-line Coach, Hypnosis Practitioner, Master Reiki, Pranic Healer and ULC Ordained Minister. Carolina has a BA in Spanish, Master’s in Translation and loves writing and speaking in public about healing and coaching.
In wellness, her first job was in a Pain Management Clinic in Puerto Rico, for the anesthesiologist who other doctors seek to deal with their own pain. This was a beautiful full circle since this doctor was her own acute pain doctor many years ago, who inspired her to look for other answers. Her work as the in-house NLP Life Coach, Reiki Master and Pranic Healer allowed her to work with the emotional root of pain and the intensifying effect of fear over pain. She worked with long time pain patients and stem-cell treatments.
She has worked with psychologists, doctors, stem cell labs, athletes and other life coaches and healers. Still, working with mothers and children (9-19) is the real reason she started her coaching practice. Carolina teaches Neuro-Linguistic Programming NLP techniques and Reiki classes. Carolina has walked a very long road, experiencing struggle, and today “she is still standing” and feeling passionate about teaching you a thing or two about how to walk and not freeze in life.

Meet Sapphire:
I was brought up in a crazy household. My mom took me and my sister to a place called Yelapa, Mexico when I was a foolish teenager. She wanted to live cheap. A place where we could live for $100.00 a year in a thatched hut. So she could pursue music.
I hated it, although she’ll tell you I loved it. I’m exaggerating, I did LOVE it, but not the days when scorpions would crawl over my feet. It does sound like a dream life. Ocean waves, horseback riding, ceviche tacos, papaya trees and jungle life with only flashlights to find your way to the bathroom. We’d spend the summers like that and travel back and forth to Tucson, Arizona. I finished high school in Tucson.
When I was about 26 my friend Amy introduced me to the Mendoza brothers. We started a band called Milkseed. For several years we played music, wrote music, recorded music. We saw each other’s best side and dark sides. Those were some of the best days of my life. The band broke up in 1997. We actually reunited a couple years ago in Phoenix, Arizona and played a reunion gig. The love is still there!!At 30 years old I decided to move to Austin, Texas and become a full time yoga teacher and play music at night. So, that’s just what I did. I continued to write and record music. The album Serenade came from my love and infatuation with Yoga and teaching Yoga.

Two Birds Yoga Training – Libby Cox, ERYT500, RPYT
Two Birds Yoga Training – Libby Cox, ERYT500, RPYTJoin Two Birds Yoga Training for your yoga teacher training experience.
Two Birds Yoga Training offers programs in various locations throughout the United States and abroad. 200-hour and 500-hour yoga teacher training based in Eugene, Oregon, with arms extending nationally.
Two Birds Yoga Training’s mission is to provide you with a well-rounded base line of understanding that you’ll be able to apply to your own comprehensive yoga practice and teaching. This is why, as you review the biographies of the faculty, you will discover that they do not all teach the same style of yoga, nor do they practice in the same meditative lineage. Yet, they all come together as a means to deepen the conversation about safe and effective yoga practice and teaching.
Each faculty member has spent years coming to her own hard-won research, thoughts, practices and points-of-view by pursuing myriad styles and ideas. They will introduce you to common yogic principles founded upon documented historical accounts of yoga practice, in a scholarly and unbiased setting, for your consideration.
Textual reference will include The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, The Bhagavad Gita, The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, The Vedas, Puranas and Upanisads. And, Two Birds will introduce you to a body of knowledge based on modern scientific exploration of the benefits of longterm yoga practice.
Two Birds Yoga Training believes that ultimately, it is through your own reflection and through your personal vision and practice of these teachings that you will teach — and not through one set of rules laid down as dogma, as the “right” way.
TWO BIRDS YOGA TRAINING FACULTY:
LIBBY COX – Program Director. After years of continued service and contributions to teacher trainings such as Yoga Yoga, EveryOne Yoga School and Global Yoga Shala, Libby Cox is now the director of Two Birds Yoga Training, a 200-hour and 500-hour Registered Yoga School with the Yoga Alliance.
The curriculum for Two Birds Yoga Training draws from many different yogic disciplines and philosophies, as the faculty roster is populated with a diverse and erudite group of educators and yoginis. Of particular note are Libby’s studies with Patty Townsend, Judith Lasater, and Douglas Brooks, which will shape much of the philosophy behind the curriculum. Townsend developed ‘Embodyoga’, an approach to movement steeped in anatomy-driven, developmental movement principles of Body Mind Centering (BMC). Libby uses these principles to help students discover and release underlying causes of dysfunctional movement patterns.
Libby’s studies with Judith Lasater, certified Iyengar teacher and physical therapist, have given her the skills to work individually with students on shoulder, hip and lower back health. Dr. Douglas Brooks, PhD, introduced her to Rajanaka Tantra, a body of ideas that emphasize the invaluable education of everyday human experience. Libby works with students, using the vision of yoga philosophy, to help them gain perspective, presence and resilience through life’s joys and challenges.
RACHEL HECTOR has been in pursuit of her PhD in Applied Kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin, and is driven to teach anatomy for Yoga, with a passion for injury prevention and personalized practice.
ANA PILAR CRUZ will bring her years of study with Gary Kraftsow and the American Viniyoga Institute to bear upon posture and breath practice, in conjunction with her interests in Tantric meditation and Indian mythology.
DELORA FREDERICKSON will give you in-depth perspectives and practices that will fortify your understanding of anatomy, yoga for women’s health and Kundalini yoga.
For further reference, here is a list of teachers with whom Two Birds Yoga Training faculty members have studied extensively:
David Swenson
Gary Kraftsow
Mark Uridel
Judith Lasater
Douglas Brooks
Leslie Howard
Nischala Joy Devi
Gianna Purcell
You may find it helpful in your consideration of this program, to familiarize yourself with these teachers, as well as their lineage- and research-based approaches to yoga as a way of life.
MEET LIBBY COX:
Libby Cox is an ERYT 500, a mother of twin boys, an educator and a dedicated student of the body. With degrees in art, dance and education, a 17-year yoga practice, and a penchant for storytelling, Libby’s teaching approach is passionate, compassionate, and witty.
Teaching yoga since 2004, Libby has served on faculty in yoga teacher training programs in the US and abroad since 2010, drawing upon her studies from numerous styles of yoga and teaching approaches in order to meet the needs of yoga students and aspiring teachers alike. Most notable are Libby’s studies with Patty Townsend, Judith Lasater, and Douglas Brooks.
Townsend developed ‘Embodyoga’, an approach to movement steeped in anatomy-driven, developmental movement principles of Body Mind Centering (BMC). Libby uses these principles to help students discover and release underlying causes of dysfunctional movement patterns.
Libby’s studies with Judith Lasater have given her the skills to work individually with students on shoulder, hip and lower back health. Dr. Douglas Brooks introduced her to Rajanaka Tantra, a body of ideas that emphasize the invaluable education of everyday human experience. Libby works with students, using the vision of yoga philosophy, to help them gain perspective, presence and resilience through life’s joys and challenges. Libby recognizes that to be a knowledgeable instructor one has to understand the world of yoga as a whole and not be closed off to any yoga experience, knowledge or practice. It is through this knowledge, Libby discovered, she stays grounded in her personal practice.
This combination of studies has sustained Libby’s long time love of connecting the exploration of body-mind and breath to invigorating, well-informed creative movement. She also loves the support and inspiration that grows out of being part of a yoga community, and seeks to share her love of yoga as a philosophy that nourishes the capacity for creativity and resilience on life’s paths.
A recent transplant in Eugene, OR, Libby teaches for Balanced Hot Yoga. She lived in Austin, TX, for the better part of 15 years, and is a teacher trainer and national presenter for Yoga Yoga. Libby also leads retreats and travels with One Yoga Global.

Meet Xenia:
A friend first introduced Xenia to Kundalini Yoga in 1998 when all she was looking for was some form of physical activity for her stiff and inactive body. Unable to formulate an opinion after taking the first class, she took another class, and then another, and another. Soon she discovered benefits beyond any expectations she ever had. Not only did she get the exercise she sought, but she discovered the chronic pain she had for 14 years began to diminish and then disappear altogether. In her life, she found calmness and patience in situations that normally frustrated her, tolerance where she was used to feeling anger, and focus and efficiency in the midst of harried deadlines. Because of Kundalini Yoga, Xenia discovered an ease and grace in Life that she had never experienced before.
Through Yoga Yoga’s Kundalini Teacher Training Program, Xenia became a certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor in 2004 so she could help bring the benefits of Kundalini Yoga to as many people possible who are looking for a better quality of Life. With an open heart, Xenia brings to her classes a vitality and understanding of everyday situations, emphasizing the breath and its connection to the Teacher within.
Xenia completed her Level 2 studies in 2010 and is a certified Practitioner. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) with Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level. Through continued training, Xenia understands more deeply how Kundalini Yoga changes lives and so became a Teacher Trainer in 2010 to share that knowledge. She assists with Yoga Teacher Trainings in Austin, TX and New Orleans, LA.
In February 2006, Xenia took the 40-Hour Ashtanga Teacher Training with David Swenson. Although she no longer incorporates Ashtanga Yoga into her practice, she finds that Vinyasa Yoga aids in creating the physical alignment for the energy to flow in her Kundalini Yoga practice. Xenia also completed the 48-Hour SuperHealth® Specialty Professional Training in March 2012 and began her teaching internship with Mukta Kaur Khalsa in 2018 in Espanola, New Mexico to help guide others to move from a place of recovery from addictions to self-discovery. Xenia is an experienced meditator, completing the 21 Stages of Meditation in 2013 and 2018. Xenia offers sound healing sessions with the gong and regularly plays the gong in her public classes, as well.
