SUPPORT FOR LIFE’S TRANSITIONS
Dr. Jo Eckler, owner of Beyond Therapy, is a licensed clinical psychologist, registered yoga teacher, and energy worker who helps enhance wellness on all levels.
Dr. Jo offers a variety of services that can be used independently or in combination to help maximize well being on all levels. A sliding scale is available if needed.
Psychotherapy: Traditional talk therapy can be extremely useful in addressing a wide variety of issues. Dr. Jo works most often with issues related to traumatic experiences, as well as with anxiety and gender and sexuality issues (including support for gender transition). She has extensive experience with veterans and adults of all ages.
Yoga & Yoga Therapy: Dr. Jo is trained in several types of yoga, including Kundalini, restorative, iRest Yoga Nidra, and chair yoga. In individual yoga therapy sessions, Dr. Jo will create a personalized mix of yogic techniques that fit your needs and current situation. These can vary widely and are always tailored to your body and abilities. She is also available to teach groups.
Energetic Healing: This form of energy work can be very soothing and complement other types of work you may be doing. Its focus is also tailored to your personal needs.
Death & Mourning Doula Services: Dr. Jo is expanding these offerings on an ongoing basis. At this time, she offers sessions to help clients and their loved ones discuss their final wishes and preferences for end-of-life care. These discussions can be difficult, but they save a great deal of heartache if they can be had now, before the situation becomes urgent. She also offers grief support after the loss of a loved one.
Meet Dr. Jo:
Dr. Jo Eckler has been on an endless quest to help others find self-compassion, love of movement, and ways to better manage stress. She started out with a doctorate in clinical 2 psychology, got licensed, and specialized in trauma and anxiety, but she found that talking wasn’t enough to help people fully heal.
After finally getting up the nerve to go to a yoga studio, she found Kundalini yoga after a spinal injury and many years away from physical activity, and was amazed at all the tools for healing it could offer. Her teacher convinced her that she could be a teacher even though she didn’t look like the ones she saw in magazines. She received her Level 1 certification in Kundalini Yoga at Yoga Yoga in Austin, Texas and is currently pursuing her Level 2 certification. She is a Level 1 iRest practitioner and is also certified in Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga and in Gong Yoga.
She knows from personal experience the struggles that larger bodies, chronically ill bodies, and queer/trans* bodies can have when walking into a fitness or yoga environment, and wants to make her classes as welcoming and accessible as possible.
Students have said:
“Warm, smart, and she makes me smile.”
“Dr. Jo’s classes are one of my top picks for Kundalini Yoga in Austin!”
“The change in me is that I am beginning to be able to allow myself compassion, and the space to be softer with myself. I think you hold space for classes with grace and a welcoming atmosphere. I feel no judgement there, and you facilitate a place for gentle growth.”
