Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a meditative but mentally and spiritually active practice that combines mantra (use of sound), meditation, pranayama (control of breath), asana (postures), and conscious movement to bring the energetic forces of the body to balance. In this act of self-devotion, we can experience joy and greater harmony with the world around us.
“In my personal practice of Kundalini I aim to breathe in new ways, meditate creatively, and experience powerful sets that inspire self-reflection, fortitude, and tranquility. “

Originally from New York, Maek Modica moved to west Houston in 1995 where he quickly learned the ways and pace of Texas. After completing a English degree with a secondary education concentration from University of North Texas in Denton, Texas in 2008, he moved to the only place in Texas he ever felt like he belonged, Austin in September of 2009.
In 2011, Maek Modica completed Yoga Yoga’s 200-hour Kundalini Level 1 Training. Later that same year, he completed two modules of Radiant Child Yoga Training, which included a component about working with special needs children. After teaching children’s yoga for 2 years at Yoga Yoga, he decided to utilize his passion for working with youth in a new setting. Since 2013, Maek has been working closely with children from ‘hard places’ at a treatment center called Helping Hand Home for children. There, he has had the opportunity to study in depth the effect of stress and trauma has on the mind and body. His work with children and yoga training has forged a trauma-informed perspective of his Kundalini practice and lifestyle.
In his personal life, Maek Modica enjoys other forms of conscious movement including ecstatic and modern dance forms as well as tai chi. He is also known to ‘maek’ mixed media art when properly inspired and sing Beatles and old rock and roll or folk songs with his family. When not singing, board games are played with abandon.
